A productive band rehearsal starts with a shared plan. A little preparation helps you spend less time deciding what to do and more time making the music work.
Before you arrive: pick a clear target
Choose a small set of priorities and send them to everyone beforehand. Be specific: finish the bridge, clean up the ending, or run the first part of the show without stopping. Make sure everyone is working from the same song versions, keys, and arrangement notes.
Pack for the session you actually have
Bring the instruments and equipment your session needs, including the small items that can stop a rehearsal when they are missing. Make a shared checklist for cables, power supplies, tuners, sticks, picks, charts, and any PA components your band uses. Confirm who is bringing shared equipment.
A monthly rehearsal room can make your setup more consistent. Check equipment and storage arrangements with the facility, and keep walkways and exits clear when setting up.
Use a simple two-hour rehearsal plan
Adapt the timing to your band. The useful part is separating detailed work from full run-throughs so neither gets lost.
Practice everything between the songs
Transitions are part of the show. Rehearse count-ins, endings, patch changes, instrument swaps, and the moments when somebody speaks to the audience. Decide who gives each cue and what everyone should do if something goes off plan.
Leave with decisions, not just impressions
Keep a short shared note after each rehearsal. Capture arrangement decisions, tempos you agreed on, and the parts that need individual work. Choose the next date before everyone leaves so the momentum has somewhere to go.
